Local Business Leaders Tee Up for Goodwill Invitational at Arroyo Trabuco

Goodwill of Orange County held its annual charity golf tournament Thursday, June 18, 2009. The annual Goodwill Invitational netted more than $95,000. The mission of Goodwill of Orange County is to provide individuals with disabilities and other barriers the opportunity to achieve their highest levels of personal and economic independence.

The Goodwill Invitational raised important funds that support Goodwill’s many programs and services that give people a hand up, rather than a hand out. In these economically challenging times, the job training and placement services Goodwill offers are needed now more than ever.

The event brought businessmen and women together for a challenging day of play on the 240-acre championship-length golf course at the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club, a public-access daily fee facility featuring an 18-hole championship-length golf course designed by PGA Tour professional Tom Lehman and well-respected local golf course architect, Casey O’Callaghan. Set amidst Trabuco Creek and the Ladera Open Space Reserve, the event provided a fun day of play followed by an inspiring and exciting auction and dinner.

During the reception, Goodwill of Orange County was presented with a $20,000 check from the CVS Caremark Charitable Trust, the private foundation created by CVS Caremark Corporation. The grant will fund Goodwill of Orange County’s innovative program that provides solutions for children and adults with disabilities, known as Assistive Technology Exchange Center (ATEC). The support provided by CVS is earmarked specifically for children to help increase both access to and awareness of assistive technology and will help to expand the inventory of loaned and reusable assistive technology. According to Eileen Howard Dunn, Vice President, CVS Caremark Charitable Trust, “The CVS Caremark Charitable Trust selected Goodwill’s ATEC program because its programming aligns with our mission to promote inclusion, increase access to medical therapies and improve academic performance of children with disabilities.”

Hyundai Motor America was a generous donor and hole-in-one sponsor with their brand new Genesis Coupe.

“Our event chairman, Todd Tripp along with a dedicated committee, rallied the support of businesses and individual sponsors to execute this event, making it one of the most successful charity tournaments in Orange County. Proceeds from the event will fund job seeking skills classes, educational opportunities, work experience training, job placement services and ongoing employment support. In fact, 91¢ of every dollar Goodwill spends goes directly to fund our programs for people with disabilities,” said Dan Rogers, President and CEO of Goodwill of Orange County.
