Goodwill Invitational Scores Big for Underserved
Goodwill of Orange County held its annual charity golf tournament Monday, June 21, 2010. The Goodwill Invitational netted more than $100,000. The mission of Goodwill of Orange County is to provide individuals with disabilities and other barriers the opportunity to achieve their highest levels of personal and economic independence.
The Goodwill Invitational raised important funds that will support Goodwill’s many programs and services that give people a hand up, rather than a hand out. In these economically challenging times, the job training and placement services Goodwill offers are needed now more than ever.
A foursome of golfers from U S Bank enjoyed a beautiful day of golf at Santa Ana Country Club.
The event brought businessmen and women together for a fun day of play on one of Orange County’s oldest championship-length golf courses at Santa Ana Country Club. Golf was followed by a cocktail reception, dinner, an exciting auction, and awards presentation.

During the evening, Goodwill of Orange County featured one of their program participants, Jonathan, along with his mother and father who shared the many joys and challenges they have experienced while raising a son with Down Syndrome. John Kearney, Vice President and District Manager, from U.S. Bank, and this year’s Presenting Sponsor, spoke of his passion for Goodwill as well as that of U.S. Bank. “We are so proud to support Goodwill and to be advocates for the work they are doing in the community to provide greater independence for so many who are seeking the training and skills that will help them get and keep jobs. I am personally excited to have recently joined their board so that I may play a bigger role in supporting the organization.”
The event chairman, Todd Tripp, along with a dedicated committee, rallied the support of businesses and individual sponsors to execute this event, making it a very successful tournament. Proceeds from the event will fund job seeking skills classes, educational opportunities, work experience training, job placement services and ongoing employment support. “In fact, 91¢ of every dollar Goodwill spends goes directly to fund our programs for people with disabilities,” said Dan Rogers, President and CEO of Goodwill of Orange County.
Goodwill of Orange County is a nonprofit organization with its Main Campus located at 410 North Fairview in Santa Ana. Now in its 86th year, Goodwill of Orange County has provided thousands of people with disabilities and other barriers the opportunity to achieve their highest levels of personal and economic independence through competitive employment.
