Volunteer Opportunities

Goodwill offers opportunities for community volunteers in the following areas:

Administrative Volunteers

Under the direction of staff, administrative volunteers assist in the daily administrative functions of the organization. Tasks include, but are not limited to helping with mailings, data entry, filing, and answering phones. Volunteers get to experience the inner-workings of a non-profit organization. Departments accepting volunteers include Human Resources, Fund Development, Finance, and Human Services.

Program Volunteers

Goodwill of Orange County offers a variety of programs that assist people with disabilities and other barriers. Program volunteers work directly with Goodwill program participants, many of whom have physical or developmental disabilities. While there may be some administrative work included, the role of a program volunteer will be to assist staff in the Human Services Department and serve as a support for program participants. Examples of potential work might include helping program participants with disabilities sort items in Goodwill’s Packaging & Assembly Department.

Business Volunteers

For working professionals looking to get involved and contribute to a non-profit organization, Goodwill of Orange County has several opportunities. Examples include serving on committees, serving as a guest instructor in Goodwill’s career center for people learning how to search for employment or serving as a mentor for a person with a disability looking to start their own business.

Special Projects

At certain times throughout the year, Goodwill of Orange County seeks volunteers for special projects. Projects are constantly changing, but may include work at Goodwill’s annual golf tournament and Goodwill’s assistive technology center.

Please note, volunteer opportunities are not available in Goodwill’s retail stores or in Goodwill’s processing area where donated items are sorted. Goodwill also does not currently have the capacity to accommodate large groups of volunteers.
